Dear BBC it's Milan not Meelan

I am dreading it! Man Spew have drawn a team from Milan in the European Champions League competition and I know, just know, that for some reason the sports reporters at the BBC will pronounce it MEElan.

I know people from Milan and I have asked them, just how do you pronounce the name? They ALL say Milan ... slight accent on the A and not one of them has said Meelan in the slightest.

Please, please spare us from your nonsense pronunciation.

Och nae, laddie...
I'm half-Italian and I can assure you it is MEE-lan...
The club was named after its English founders, but people could never read it properly...
Mee-lahn, instead is the MILANESE DIALECTICAL PRONUNCIATION of the CITY OF MILAN... not the club...
Antone would say MEE-lan, and people in Milan will tell it's the club, not the city in dialectical terms...
In the rest of Italy MEE-LAH-NO is the city and MEE-lan is the club.
Btw, we call Internazionale Milano as INTER, whereas you call it Inter Milan... which is more correct indeed!!!

MEE-LAH-N might be the dialectical milanese pronounciation of the CITY of Milan, but they refer to the club as MEE-lan, as well as we all do in Italy, where we pronounce the city like MEE-LAH-NO.
If you went to Milan and spoke about Mee-lah-n, they'd assume you're talking about the city, not the club... you have to say MEE-lan, and that's it.
The fact is that the club was named after their British founders, but the milanese couldn't pronounce it properly...
Btw, you call Internazionale Milan as Inter Milan, we only say "Inter"... but you're more correct, because the club is indeed "Internazionale Milano". :-)
